a bit of a catch-up health wise

Hello lovely readers, first up I have to apologise as I have definitely been slacking this week. I love reading all my favourite blogs, but this week I seem to have lost motivation a little. I've not really been spending any time on my laptop, which is probably a good thing because I have a Dickens book to get through that I am so not enjoying. There are a thousand other things on my mind, but I'm sure a few days at home this weekend will make everything seem better :) I wanted to blog tonight to do a bit of a health update, this is the only place I keep a kind of diary of what's been going on, sorry to anyone who may find this type of post boring!!

There's a few things that have been going on aside from all my usual health issues. A couple of weeks ago I noticed I had two lumps underneath my tongue, just when I was brushing my teeth of an evening. I thought it quite unusual, but I popped to the chemist to see if they could offer any advice. They couldn't, so I went to the doctors as soon as I could. My doctor said what I have is a ranula (that photo is gross - mine are nowhere near as huge as that!!). He basically said if it didn't go away within 7-10 days, I'd need to be referred. Me being me, of course it hasn't gone away. So that's one more referral on my long list! I'll be going to the ENT department (again!) on 10th April.

Next up, last week my mum received a letter from my very special specialist consultant, regarding my vertigo/ear problems. It was a copy of what he'd sent to my doctor. It did not fill me with hope and joy, from what I can tell all my results are contradicting each other. I won't write him off just yet, as this consultant is the best of the best and my only hope at being diagnosed/treated... he signed the letter off 'no simple explanation at this time'. This makes me think that at least he hasn't given up on me... yet!! :)

Last on my list of issues is a sparkly new one, or not so sparkly, not like my face after pricing up loads of glittery cards at work today!! A few weeks ago I finally got around to going for my back x-ray, as a result of my back going into spasm over the new year and some general aches and pains. I rang for my results yesterday afternoon, and was quite surprised to hear that actually, the x-ray did show something. I'd heard that most back problems won't be shown on an x-ray, so I wasn't expecting that it did. As I only spoke to the receptionist, I'm not sure what any of this means! Basically, she said I have 'bone changes' and a 'slight curve' in my lower back/spine. She then babbled something and I have no idea what, but it ended with 'so do you agree to go ahead with that?' to which I replied yes. Why are we English so polite that we can't say erm, excuse me what the hell did you just say??. I think I agreed to a scan... or something... who knows! I'm sure I'll get a letter in the post soon haha. Does anyone have any experience with anything like this? It's all new to me, and I don't have any idea what it means, if anything! (One thing it does mean is that I can say 'Mark please carry me, I have a curve in my spine'... I'm totally milking it right now.)

  1. Regarding you back, I had kind of the same thing [as it sounds] and they had me to do some exercises to correct my posture/spine. Nothing hurt and now I feel no pain and have a ballerina posture!
Other than that, I hope you get better soon, darling :)

  4. Aw no, sorry you've been having all these annoying problems? I had a curved spine but it was really severe so I had an op to correct it when I was 14. It's quite a common thing that runs in the women in my family, only me and my cousin needed operating though everyone else just got given exercises that really helped. Hope it all gets sorted soon! I know how annoying hospital appointments are so I feel your pain, feel free to have a good moan on here if you need to! xxx

  5. I know exactly how you feel, my list of health problems just seems to get longer & longer each time I go to the doctors! My mum always jokes that if I were a dog she'd have me put down because I'm so sickly! Haha!
I hope your ear problems get sorted out soon & they can get to the bottom of it. I know how frustrating it can be when you know somethings wrong but no-one can tell you what it is or why it's happening. Sending lots of hugs! And yes, definitely milk it for as long as possible! ;) Hah!
