Life // Changes

Hello lovelies, how are you all? It's early Saturday morning, Mark's gone off to work like postmen do at these foggy times of the day, and I'm finally ready to blog. What started as a tiny blogging break ended up as a huge I've not posted in almost 2 months scenario. I've missed you all, and my little blog, lots! It's been a challenging time, but also an exciting time, and I'm going to catch you up on what's been happening lately. Settle down and get comfortable!

First of all, Mark, Rufus & I finally made the leap from staying at my mum's house to our own lovely little rented apartment. It's described as a coach house and it's just perfect for us! It was quite stressful making the actual move, and it was quite a while after our official moving date that we actually moved in. On the day of us getting the keys, I noticed all the things that I hadn't noticed on viewing and I felt overwhelmed by the move. After a big clean, and the addition of our belongings, it feels much more like home. Now that we're living there, we love it. We love having our own space and freedom, and choosing furniture and other things makes the creative side of me so happy! We've still a lot of unpacked boxes around, but we're finally getting there.

On moving day, Rufus had to go on his first ever trip to the vets, because he was a poorly little fluff. We were given three different medications for him, and he was totally exhausted by them. I think he was also a little shaken after being handled by someone he didn't know. He's on the mend now, though we're not sure if he's still not quite himself or if he's still settling in after the move. He's got one more course of his last medication to have next week, then we'll take him to get checked over to make sure he's fully recovered.

Whilst all this moving business was going on, I was on the search for extra hours in the form of a second job or a full time job. A couple of months back, I had an interview for a new store opening in Leicester. I was offered the job, but afterwards it turned out the hours weren't what they'd promised, so I turned it down. I was offered this job two further times! The latest offer having been just a couple of weeks ago when I randomly received a phone call offering me 40 hours a week. But through the power of Facebook & friends, I got a temporary job in a lovely little tearoom. This has meant that mostly I've been working 7 days a week, 6 days on a good week. I've been tired and somewhat grumpy! But I've really enjoyed working with the lovely staff at the tearoom, and will miss it when I leave the week after next. My manager in my local newsagent job offered me enough hours to keep me, so I'm staying put for a while.

Then there's my studying with the Open Uni. This is something else that, as well as blogging, has had to take a backseat in such a hectic period of my life. I managed to keep up to date with everything until my final assignment of this module, when I tried to get an extension. Unfortunately, they said the extension this time wasn't possible. But luckily, with my two previous assignment results being high enough, I was able to skip it and still pass as long as I pass the exam. Which is where it gets messy! The day of the exam is the day we go on holiday to Barcelona (12 days!!), and the OU say that going on holiday isn't a good enough reason to miss it. Despite the holiday having been booked in January, when this course started in March. But I'll get on the phone on Monday morning and attempt to negotiate something..!

I'm one of those people that struggles with change, and it takes me a little while to adapt and to feel comfortable again. But lately I've been embracing change and the positive things it can bring. It's been difficult in places, and some things aren't quite worked out yet, but I'm staying positive and enjoying the happy place I'm at now. I can't wait for the break our holiday brings, and to do some exploring in a new place! If anyone has any recommendations of places to eat, see or things to do, I'd love to know!

Thank you to anyone who made it to the bottom of this lengthy post, and I promise normal blogging will resume soon. I don't know how soon, but I do know it's good to be back :)

Little Things #13: I've missed you

Hello dear readers, I have missed you and your blogs so much. As ever, life has gotten in the way of my blogging with my first assignment having been submitted last week, my first night out in over two years (and it didn't make me ill or give me vertigo!), and me being me - being ill again! I'm currently doing some tests to return to the doctors this week, and then my doctor said it will probably be another hospital referral. I'm having a cystoscopy in June, which I'm so not looking forward to but gladly will be under anesthetic for! One day I might have no hospital stuff going on right? Haha I hope so!

How cute is Rufy in the cup?! And the little drawing Indigo did of him - ahhh!

1. Mark & I recently celebrated four whole years together :) I can't believe
it's been so long, and I can't wait for many more adventures!

2. This no oil hair oil is supposed to give fine hair volume, I don't have fine hair
and I don't notice added volume - but it works wonders on smoothing out those
flyaways and generally my hair feels healthier and looks more shiny.

3. I finished and submitted my first assignment on this module, and I passed!

4. Mark & I went for lunch at The Marina, and spotted this Rufus canal boat!

5. I've been loving taking film photos with my lomography camera lately, the
results are so varied (I'm still getting used to it) which makes it more fun
because we never know how they're going to turn out.

6. At some point during the big move, the majority of my earrings and my rings
went missing in my lovely new jewellery box. It made me so sad to lose all my
favourite jewellery, but I'm slowly trying to replace them with new ones.

7. My sister Phoebe gave me this pretty daisy chain bracelet she made for me
the other day when it was sunny (where have you gone sun?!).

8. I recently joined Twitter! I joined because someone recommended I'd get
through to a company with a complaint on there, but I wimped out! I'm still
not sure what I'm meant to do, but you can find me here on Twitter.

9. On Saturday I went on my first night out in over two years!! I couldn't have
had a more fabulous night with my besties & hope we can do it again soon :)

10. Sunday was spent in true hungover style, in comfy PJs watching rubbish TV
and eating toast and chicken noodles, as made by my lovely boyfriend!

I'll slowly but surely be catching up with you all over the next week - did you do anything special this bank holiday?

Little Five Friday #12 (and a couple extra!)

Hello everyone! How are you all doing? Here I am trying to get a bit of normality and routine going on again with my little blog, with a Little Five Friday catching up with what's been happening the last few weeks. Aside from what's here, we also made a little trip back to the Wirral for Mark's mum, Sandra's birthday. It was so nice to see Sandra, Mark's brother Craig, and nana Mary again. We won't be going again until later this month, we're definitely missing the Wirral! I've been struck down with various illnesses (a change of location didn't help!) and my costochondritis has flared up again at the moment. I've done lots of studying whilst enjoying a PJ day today though, so there are upsides!

1. When we first arrived here I went to see my best friend Leah in Eloquent's
Rainbow dance show, the school she teaches at. She was amazing like every time
I see her dance! So proud, it's less than 6 months since she gave birth to Belle!

2. I had my very first Etsy sale! I finally set up my Etsy shop, shhboutique.
It's not finished, but I have a few things for sale and I can't wait to add
more once I'm all caught up with studying and assignments.

3. Need I say more? Seeing his furry little face looking up at me just makes
everything okay. He's playful and at the moment he loves banana and carrot.

4. Mark & I with a few of our family members went on a daytrip to the seaside!
We couldn't have asked for better weather, and it was lovely being by the sea.
Indigo definitely enjoyed it, I'll do a full post with some photos next week.

5. Easter Sunday I spent four hours in work, and did my first locking up of
the shop! I then had a delicious roast dinner with three different meats (mmm
gammon!) with all of my family, it was lovely to see them all in one place.

6. Did you see my Santoro London post? The lovely Rebekah sent me out some of
the prettiest stationery I've seen, I can't wait to add more to my collection!

7. This week Mark & I went to Drayton Manor, Mark's first time! We did end up
having quite a nice day, but there were downsides too. I'll write a full post
on this once I pick up my photos when they're developed.

Have you done anything exciting/different this Easter? One of my favourite things in the world is spending time with my family and friends. It's lovely being able to do that so easily now we've moved!

Little Five Friday #6

Good morning lovelies, we've woken up to sunshine here for the past few days and it's wonderful! There's a real feeling of Spring in the air and some days I've even swapped my boots for ballet flats! Mark & I have enjoyed two days off together this week, involving plenty of shopping and looking for home decor inspiration for when we move. Mark finally got his start date for the Royal Mail through, the 7th April - exciting!

1. A very indulgent box of Cadburys Milk Tray. It's still half eaten, mostly
because I don't like half of them haha. My favourite chocolates are always
the orange ones, how about you?

2. On Monday Wolf & Moon offered free shipping, so I snapped up another pair
of these gorgeous Little Hex studs. They arrived the next day and I wore them
for the first time yesterday - it's love! There are more colours at The Little Deer.

3. Do I even need to say anything?! Rufus features on my list of reasons to be
happy every single day!

4. No one does colour like Kate Spade! This iPhone case & supercalifragilipstick
are from TK Maxx at £12.99 and £9.99, what a bargain! The lipstick will probably
feature in an OOTD soon.

5. Last but not least, my new post of the week goes to Sam's heartwarming
100th Birthday post. Sam's Great Grandmother turned 100 - what a special day!

What was your favourite blog post this week?

Little Five Friday #3

Hello lovely readers, and what a lovely lot you are! Thank you so much to anyone who left a comment on my last blog post, I'm so lucky to have readers as wonderful as all of you :) and hello to my new followers, please come say hi and leave me your link so I can come and have a nosy at your blog too. Here's what I've been enjoying this week...

1. I never tire of seeing this furry little face! Rufus is our first pet as
grown ups, and we didn't imagine it would be possible to love him so much!
(We know most couples our age are saying this about their human babies!!)

2. I finally got around to clearing out my wardrobe and unpacking the bag of
clothes I took to mum's at Christmas! It's such a relief, and a few bits are
for sale here on Ebay, all ending on Sunday evening!

3. This lovely bunch of daffodils is currently brightening up the kitchen,
much needed when days have been as grey as they have lately!

4. This week I booked a Valentines surprise (two!) for March, for Mark.
I'm so excited to tell him next Friday what it is, I know he'll love it!

5. I love the Channel 4 series Coach Trip, it's so funny and they visit so
many interesting places. It's interesting when the group divides!

What have you been enjoying this week?

Little Five Friday #1

Hello dear readers, I'd like to share with you today my new weekly series Little Five Friday. I've seen variations of this post on lots of blogs, Josie's and Samantha's being two examples. I thought I'd join in with my own little things post, with a header made from a beautiful photograph my dad took. I hope you enjoy my new series, and I'd love to know what you'd like to see more of on my blog.

1. Today is my little sister Indigo's fifth birthday. At 7am we FaceTimed, and
Mark & I got to watch her open her presents!

2. Followed up by a chocolate mocha in my favourite mug and some dark chocolate
digestives, mmm!

3. Freshly painted nails, Mavala Lagoon covered by Topshop Moonshine and some
nail stickers. I picked up the Moonshine polish for 50p, and the stickers for £1 in
in Topshop on Tuesday, bargain!

4. Wearing my sweet and soft new panda slippers and cute socks.

5. Seeing my furry little baby when he's meant to be sleeping!

Have you got a similar series/post? I'd love to see it :) please leave links below.

Merry Christmas you beautiful lot!

Rufus, Mark & I would like to wish you lovely people a very merry Christmas! I'm posting this on Christmas Eve because Christmas day is sure to be crazy in the Brown household! I hope everyone gets what they wished for, and I hope you all have a wonderful day surrounded by the people you love. See you in a few days! x x x

Rules Answer all ten questions below, make sure to add The Christmas Cracker Tag logo (above) somewhere in your post, tag as many bloggers as you like to do the tag, comment on the blogs you have tagged to let them know!

One: What’s on your Christmas list?
I don't really have a Christmas wishlist, with my birthday being December 1st I usually ask for anything I want then :) I'm excited to see what I get though!

Two: What’s on your Christmas Day agenda?
For the first time in a few years we're all staying at home, my brother Zach and my brother Josh and his family are coming round for presents and dinner so I'm really excited to have a more relaxing version of Christmas this year!

Three: How much Christmas shopping have you done?
I shop throughout the year because I have so many people to buy for, I always aim to be finished by December because there are so many birthdays in my family at this time of year too.

Four: What’s been your biggest ever surprise gift?
I have an awful memory but last year Mark got me tickets to the Harry Potter studio (I promise to post the photos in the New Year finally!!) and I was so surprised and excited! Even the letter I got saying I was going to the tour was so exciting to me haha, I'm such a Harry Potter geek and I've made Mark one too now.

Five: When do you usually put up your Christmas tree?
It's tradition in my house for it to go up on my birthday, December 1st! Though I think it went up on the 2nd this year because on the 1st we were at the Harry Potter studios :)

Six: Do you have a special outfit planned for Christmas Day?
I'm not entirely sure this year! Half of the day is inevitably spent in pjs because it takes so long for all of us to open our presents!

Seven: Do you have any plans for Boxing Day?
Usually each year for Christmas us and all of our family friends have dinner together in our hired out village hall. We eat, sing Christmas carols and have a lovely time together. We're doing it on boxing day this year instead!

Eight: When did you stop believing in Father Christmas?
I have no idea!! But I'm still managing to keep my little sister Indigo convinced that he's real, she's 5 in January :)

Nine: What’s your favourite Christmas scent? (Candle/Perfume)
I love the smell of cinnamon but find it a bit strong in a candle!

Ten: What do you love most about Christmas?
I have three whole weeks off work and I'm spending time with my family and friends, and soon Mark too. I love Christmas because I get to see everyone and eat delicious food and even drink a Baileys or too (chocolate flavour this year!).

I'd like to tag anyone who'd like to do this, I know I'm a bit late with it though!!! Enjoy your day lovelies :)

Meeting Rufus

Hello lovelies, I thought it was about time I introduced you to Mark & I's new addition. Meet Rufus, our baby hamster. We brought him home on the 16th September, we've had him for nearly a whole month and I don't know what I ever did without him! He keeps me company when Mark is working late, and I miss his furry little face when I don't get to see him.

He entertains and amuses me endlessly, the pictures below will show you some of the ways how!

1. I always give Rufus a little yogurt treat when I first wake him up, sometimes if he's feeling especially lazy, he'll only poke his head out of his bed to take the treat and go back to bed! 2. Rufus likes to climb up between his cage and his tunnel to say hello 3. He loves his tunnel, he spends half his time running back and forth in there, rolling onto his back and squishing himself through so he's facing the opposite way (if he gets bigger and carries on, he might get stuck!) 4. One of our first photos of Rufus, when he was still quite tentative with us but getting more curious 5. When we got Rufus I told Mark I'd like to get him a blanket, Mark told me hamsters don't like blankets... Rufus has adopted my blanket as his own, and he loves it! 6. Rufus stands at the edge of his cage to watch TV, or the bubble screensaver on my laptop!

7. Rufus snuggling up in my blanket on the sofa 8. Rufus sitting on top of his tunnel 9. Look at those tiny little ears! When it's really cold, I leave extra bedding for Rufus downstairs in his cage, he gathers it in his cheeks and takes it to his bed (he fits SO much in his mouth!) 10. Rufus the adventurer! Can you see his little nose peeking through the top of his tent? 11. Rufus sitting on his roof - his namesake! 12. Playing in his tunnel again, he likes me to pick bits of his food out his bowl and give them to him, he takes them in his tunnel and eats the 'good ones' and leaves the 'bad ones' untouched!

13. Whenever Mark is in another room, or coming down the stairs, Rufus' little ears prick up and he stays like this until Mark comes in 14 & 15. Playing in the blanket 16. Pushing the boundaries haha, I make the blanket so that he can't escape, but sometimes he likes to see if he can 17. Having snuggles, sometimes he's so calm he just snuggles in between my arm and side 18. Blanket snuggles

19. I make Rufus caves out of the blanket and he loves exploring 20. Rufus on his roof contemplating the great escape, he still hasn't braved it! 21 & 22. Tent playtime! 23. Eating apple in his tube, occasionally we give him a tiny chunk of fresh apple or half a grape, he does have dried fruit too 24. More sofa snuggles!

Did you enjoy meeting our fluffy little baby? It's time to wake him up and give him fresh food now :) if you'd like to see more photos of Rufus, I post them on my Instagram as linked below.
