Hello dear readers, I have missed you and your blogs so much. As ever, life has gotten in the way of my blogging with my first assignment having been submitted last week, my first night out in over two years (and it didn't make me ill or give me vertigo!), and me being me - being ill again! I'm currently doing some tests to return to the doctors this week, and then my doctor said it will probably be another hospital referral. I'm having a cystoscopy in June, which I'm so not looking forward to but gladly will be under anesthetic for! One day I might have no hospital stuff going on right? Haha I hope so!
How cute is Rufy in the cup?! And the little drawing Indigo did of him - ahhh!

1. Mark & I recently celebrated four whole years together :) I can't believe
it's been so long, and I can't wait for many more adventures!

2. This no oil hair oil is supposed to give fine hair volume, I don't have fine hair
and I don't notice added volume - but it works wonders on smoothing out those
flyaways and generally my hair feels healthier and looks more shiny.

3. I finished and submitted my first assignment on this module, and I passed!

4. Mark & I went for lunch at The Marina, and spotted this Rufus canal boat!

5. I've been loving taking film photos with my lomography camera lately, the
results are so varied (I'm still getting used to it) which makes it more fun
because we never know how they're going to turn out.

6. At some point during the big move, the majority of my earrings and my rings
went missing in my lovely new jewellery box. It made me so sad to lose all my
favourite jewellery, but I'm slowly trying to replace them with new ones.

7. My sister Phoebe gave me this pretty daisy chain bracelet she made for me
the other day when it was sunny (where have you gone sun?!).

8. I recently joined Twitter! I joined because someone recommended I'd get
through to a company with a complaint on there, but I wimped out! I'm still
not sure what I'm meant to do, but you can find me here on Twitter.

9. On Saturday I went on my first night out in over two years!! I couldn't have
had a more fabulous night with my besties & hope we can do it again soon :)

10. Sunday was spent in true hungover style, in comfy PJs watching rubbish TV
and eating toast and chicken noodles, as made by my lovely boyfriend!
I'll slowly but surely be catching up with you all over the next week - did you do anything special this bank holiday?

Hello everyone! How are you all doing? Here I am trying to get a bit of normality and routine going on again with my little blog, with a Little Five Friday catching up with what's been happening the last few weeks. Aside from what's here, we also made a little trip back to the Wirral for Mark's mum, Sandra's birthday. It was so nice to see Sandra, Mark's brother Craig, and nana Mary again. We won't be going again until later this month, we're definitely missing the Wirral! I've been struck down with various illnesses (a change of location didn't help!) and my costochondritis has flared up again at the moment. I've done lots of studying whilst enjoying a PJ day today though, so there are upsides!

1. When we first arrived here I went to see my best friend Leah in Eloquent's
Rainbow dance show, the school she teaches at. She was amazing like every time
I see her dance! So proud, it's less than 6 months since she gave birth to Belle!

2. I had my very first Etsy sale! I finally set up my Etsy shop, shhboutique.
It's not finished, but I have a few things for sale and I can't wait to add
more once I'm all caught up with studying and assignments.

3. Need I say more? Seeing his furry little face looking up at me just makes
everything okay. He's playful and at the moment he loves banana and carrot.

4. Mark & I with a few of our family members went on a daytrip to the seaside!
We couldn't have asked for better weather, and it was lovely being by the sea.
Indigo definitely enjoyed it, I'll do a full post with some photos next week.

5. Easter Sunday I spent four hours in work, and did my first locking up of
the shop! I then had a delicious roast dinner with three different meats (mmm
gammon!) with all of my family, it was lovely to see them all in one place.

6. Did you see my Santoro London post? The lovely Rebekah sent me out some of
the prettiest stationery I've seen, I can't wait to add more to my collection!

7. This week Mark & I went to Drayton Manor, Mark's first time! We did end up
having quite a nice day, but there were downsides too. I'll write a full post
on this once I pick up my photos when they're developed.
Have you done anything exciting/different this Easter? One of my favourite things in the world is spending time with my family and friends. It's lovely being able to do that so easily now we've moved!

Hello dear readers, I took a little impromptu blogging break, but I've missed you all and I'm so glad to be back. There were a few things happening in the last week or so that just meant my attention wasn't focused on my blog and I didn't find any time to post (even though I had planned to!). Sometimes these things happen as I'm sure you all know, and I can't wait to catch up on everything all of my favourite bloggers have been up to (yep, that's you!).
On Sunday (1st December) it was my 25th birthday. I had such a wonderful day with Mark at the Harry Potter studio tour and I can't wait to show you some of my photos and tell you about it. Happy advent everyone!
I also met my best friend Leah's new baby, Belle Hope, for the very first time on Monday. Both mum and baby are so beautiful and I can't believe how well my best friend looks - you wouldn't believe she had a baby just over two weeks ago!! Belle was born on the 20th November at 7.46pm, I'm so proud of my bestie.
Health update
I'd like to take this opportunity to write a little update about my health lately, as I haven't done for ages and this is my little spot for keeping track of things as well as sharing them. I understand not everyone wants to read about this stuff so if not then skip to the end, I promise I won't mind!
I had my last ever appointment with my ear consultant (hopefully!) in October. I was discharged - hurray! At first I felt a bit disappointed with being discharged and not really knowing what happened to me. But I realised since that my consultant's diagnosis is all that can be said, that my tinnitus, balance problems and vertigo are side effects of my bout of labrynthitis in December 2011. For over a year now I haven't had a vertigo attack (touch wood), only slight dizzy episodes. My physio said that the best thing I can do is to live my life as I would, and if I need him he's only a phone call away. My hearing had stabilised in my last few hearing tests and definitely seems a lot better now. I still have constant tinnitus in my right ear, but it's something I've learned to live with. On a slightly less positive note, I've got to have another colonoscopy. I had one a year ago and to be honest the worst part was the preparation you have to go through beforehand and the way it makes you feel afterwards. I'm not booking that until well after the new year though so I'm choosing not to think about it for now! I've also got four spinal rehabilitation classes in January.
How have you all been? Are you feeling festive?! I'm loving all of the Christmas lights I've seen so far and had my first Christmas drink in Costa the other day, a chocolate orange mocha latte, delicious!

At the hospital today, having a second round of VEMPs testing (sticky pads on my face & neck, leaving sore red patches and yucky glue!).
Firstly, a big hello! to my new followers and comment-leavers, it's so much appreciated and I will come visit your blogs in the coming days :) and of course thank you to you lovely regular readers!
It's been a busy few days with more hospital appointments, which hasn't resulted in much of anything as yet. I have been given a physio exercise by a specialist physiotherapist, which is basically an X printed in the middle of an A4 piece of paper. I have to keep my eyes on the cross and move my head slightly to each side. This is so easy for anyone who doesn't have balance problems, but I'm pretty slow and I'm only allowed to do 10 seconds for a while, so as it doesn't make me dizzy/ill! I also had more VEMPs testing, which is interesting with the sticky pads (I wish I'd been prepared though, neither times had they warned me so there was me with my make-up on only for it to be wiped off with a gross solution and replaced with glue!!). Hopefully this time I will get the results :)
I hope everyone's week got off to a good start! If anyone has Instagram, pop over and say hello here.

Dear lovely readers, I have just popped by to say hello and to say sorry I've not been around. I have had a busy time of it with appointments, and yesterday morning I went in to the hospital for a 'biopsy of lesions on the floor of the mouth'. I had the lumps under my tongue cut out. It was unpleasant, but I'm recovering nicely (fingers crossed!). I won't find out anything for 8 weeks, and my fingers are firmly crossed that the lumps won't reoccur.
I have been missing posting, and reading all of your wonderful blogs. I hope to be back on form in the next couple of days, and look forward to catching up :) those lovely flowers from my Instagram feed were a gift from Sandra - thank you so much! They're so beautiful, all glittery and pink. Mark is doing a great job of taking care of me too :)
Bye for now xx

Hello lovely readers, first up I have to apologise as I have definitely been slacking this week. I love reading all my favourite blogs, but this week I seem to have lost motivation a little. I've not really been spending any time on my laptop, which is probably a good thing because I have a Dickens book to get through that I am so not enjoying. There are a thousand other things on my mind, but I'm sure a few days at home this weekend will make everything seem better :) I wanted to blog tonight to do a bit of a health update, this is the only place I keep a kind of diary of what's been going on, sorry to anyone who may find this type of post boring!!
There's a few things that have been going on aside from all my usual health issues. A couple of weeks ago I noticed I had two lumps underneath my tongue, just when I was brushing my teeth of an evening. I thought it quite unusual, but I popped to the chemist to see if they could offer any advice. They couldn't, so I went to the doctors as soon as I could. My doctor said what I have is a ranula (that photo is gross - mine are nowhere near as huge as that!!). He basically said if it didn't go away within 7-10 days, I'd need to be referred. Me being me, of course it hasn't gone away. So that's one more referral on my long list! I'll be going to the ENT department (again!) on 10th April.
Next up, last week my mum received a letter from my very special specialist consultant, regarding my vertigo/ear problems. It was a copy of what he'd sent to my doctor. It did not fill me with hope and joy, from what I can tell all my results are contradicting each other. I won't write him off just yet, as this consultant is the best of the best and my only hope at being diagnosed/treated... he signed the letter off 'no simple explanation at this time'. This makes me think that at least he hasn't given up on me... yet!! :)
Last on my list of issues is a sparkly new one, or not so sparkly, not like my face after pricing up loads of glittery cards at work today!! A few weeks ago I finally got around to going for my back x-ray, as a result of my back going into spasm over the new year and some general aches and pains. I rang for my results yesterday afternoon, and was quite surprised to hear that actually, the x-ray did show something. I'd heard that most back problems won't be shown on an x-ray, so I wasn't expecting that it did. As I only spoke to the receptionist, I'm not sure what any of this means! Basically, she said I have 'bone changes' and a 'slight curve' in my lower back/spine. She then babbled something and I have no idea what, but it ended with 'so do you agree to go ahead with that?' to which I replied yes. Why are we English so polite that we can't say erm, excuse me what the hell did you just say??. I think I agreed to a scan... or something... who knows! I'm sure I'll get a letter in the post soon haha. Does anyone have any experience with anything like this? It's all new to me, and I don't have any idea what it means, if anything! (One thing it does mean is that I can say 'Mark please carry me, I have a curve in my spine'... I'm totally milking it right now.)

From the 4th - 10th February this year, it's Tinnitus Week across the UK. The week was created by the BTA to raise awareness.
What is tinnitus?
Tinnitus is a medical term to describe the perception of noise either in one ear, both ears or in the head, when there is no corresponding external sound. All sufferers of tinnitus have different experiences, and hear different 'sounds'. It could be a ringing, buzzing, humming, whistling or something else entirely! Tinnitus often sounds worse when you are in a quiet environment, as there is less background noise and nothing to distract you from the sound.
What causes tinnitus?
Most causes of tinnitus aren't harmful. It is commonly caused by damage that has occurred in the inner ear. Sounds pass from the outer ear through the middle ear and on to the inner ear, which contains the cochlea and the auditory nerve. The cochlea is a coiled, spiral tube that contains a large number of sensitive hair cells. The auditory nerve transmits sounds to the brain. If part of the cochlea becomes damaged, it will stop sending information to parts of your brain. These areas of your brain will then actively "seek out" signals from the parts of the cochlea that are still working. These signals are over-represented in the brain and cause the sounds of tinnitus. In older people, tinnitus is often caused by natural hearing loss, which makes the hearing nerves less sensitive. In younger people, tinnitus can sometimes occur as a result of hearing damage caused by excessive noise.
Other possible causes of tinnitus?
It can be hard to identify the cause of tinnitus, even after seeing a specialist. But as well as natural hearing loss and damage, there are several other possible causes, including: a build-up of earwax that blocks the ear, a middle ear infection (otitis media), glue ear (otitis media with infusion), ostosclerosis - an inherited condition where an abnormal bone growth in the middle ear causes hearing loss, Ménière's disease - a condition that affects a part of the inner ear known as the labyrinth and causes balance problems, Paget's disease - a condition where the normal cycle of bone renewal and repair is disrupted, anaemia - a reduced number of red blood cells that can sometimes cause the blood to become thinner and to circulate so rapidly that it produces a sound, and a perforated eardrum.
How can I get my tinnitus diagnosed?
The first thing to do is see your GP. They will ask you about the noises and probably examine your ears. If your ears are clear and there is no sign of infection, you will be referred on to: the ENT (ear, nose, throat) department at your local hospital, the audiological medicine department, the audiology department, or hearing therapy. As it can be caused by such a wide range of different health issues, it is important to see your doctor. It could be something easily treated like high blood pressure or a build-up of earwax. Some tests that may be run when the doctors are trying to diagnose you include the following: hearing tests, balance tests, ear x-rays, blood tests, CT scans and MRI scans.
How will my tinnitus be treated?
I am just going to point everyone in the direction of the NHS Tinnitus Treatment Page, as so far I have no experience of any successful treatment of tinnitus. This doesn't mean that you won't!! As stated below, I have other issues that are to do with my tinnitus, so your case may be a lot more simple than mine to solve.
What is your experience with tinnitus?
In December 2011, I woke up one morning with unexplained ringing in my right ear. The following week I was very sick, I suffered with severe vertigo which caused sickness and I could barely move. This lasted until a few days before Christmas, and I was diagnosed with Labyrnthitis. It was scary, and I didn't know what was going on! I was prescribed prochlorperazine, an anti-sickness tablet, to help with the sickness. Ever since then, my ear has never stopped ringing! I have also suffered several attacks of vertigo since, and lots of episodes of dizziness. If I'm feeling dizzy, I take prochlorperazine in case it progresses to vertigo. I have had lots and lots of tests (all of those above, read about balance tests here), and as yet I am undiagnosed. One of the tests I've had over and over again, is hearing tests. I have a low frequency deafness in my right ear, this is the opposite to the common high frequency hearing loss. I can still hear just fine, unless I'm lying on my left ear, in which case I struggle. I was given a hearing aid, but with my type of deafness and tinnitus, the hearing aid was pointless. The tinnitus by itself, is not so much of an issue for me. It's only times when it's playing up that I feel like I can't bare it. You do get used to having tinnitus, and for the most part can block it out and ignore it. You eventually learn that if you're thinking about the tinnitus, you will notice it be more and be unable to stop listening! It does flare up at times though, like at the moment for me my tinnitus is constantly changing in tone, volume and intensity, so I'm constantly aware of it. I am still in the process of (hopefully) being diagnosed. I was referred to a new specialist (Dr Peter Rea) at the end of last year, and I am very hopeful that he will be able to diagnose me and help me in some capacity. If you have tinnitus and would like to chat to someone else who does, feel free to contact me :) also, if you'd like any more information on anything I've said, whether you're just curious or you're experiencing similar things, send me a message.
I used information from the NHS website to write this post. If you would like more information, or help, you can visit the Action on Hearing Loss website, or the British Tinnitus Association website.

There's a few things I've popped here to post today, firstly a big hello to all of you lovely people :) I was amazed by the amount of positive comments I received in response to my last post - so thank you all very much! I will make a conscious effort to try and do more 'Outfit of the day' posts. The photo above includes a couple of slices of the cake Mark & I made while doing some late night baking last night, using of course the easiest cake recipe!. It's an orange sponge with chocolate chips in. Mark says he likes it better than the lemon loaf, but I'm not entirely convinced. I think it needs some chocolate butter cream for a bit more contrast in taste.
My best friend informed me this morning that it is National Tinnitus Awareness Week (thanks Leah!), and as this is something that has affected my life for the last 14 months, I will be dedicating a post to raise awareness tomorrow. Please come back and check it out, I'll try to keep it informative and helpful for anyone that's interested.
On a related note, my ears have been giving me lots of trouble lately :( I generally do pretty well at ignoring my tinnitus, but lately it refuses to let me. The pitch, tone and intensity of sounds are constantly changing at the moment, so I'm constantly aware of it. It's very annoying. I've been having pains to go with it too, down the side of my face/jaw and in the side of my head above my ear. And the hospital has put my appointment with my consultant back now to a month later, March 27th. I am glad that I haven't had dizziness/vertigo since the days leading up to Christmas, but really ears?? Be quieter and less painful please! Playing up is not going to make the doctor see us any sooner!
I've spent the last few days concentrating on my OU work, I've got an assignment due in on Thursday and I've got to write a poem and a commentary on the process of doing so. I never realised until I finished all the studying I had to do towards this assignment, how hard a poem would actually be to write. I mean, how hard can it be? I've written heaps of poems before, I used to write them all the time, I even had a couple published! But it turns out, that actually, I really knew nothing at all about poetry. There are so many things to consider that my mind is blown, I will be attempting to write my first draft tomorrow so we'll see how that goes.
Last but not least, I found out last week that I will be out of a job as of March (sob sob). I love my job in the little independent card shop, and I will miss it very much. But it was only ever temporary. I've been job searching for a little while now anyway, but there is literally just nothing for me. I've searched in both my mum's area (Leicestershire) and in this area (Wirral and Liverpool). I literally have found nothing to apply for. My fingers are crossed that something comes up very soon!

On Monday morning, Mark & I woke up to heavy snow on the Wirral! So we were quite worried about our journey on Monday night. However, we braved it and thought well we will stick with our original plan, and headed to Liverpool for our 7.50pm train to Nuneaton. Luckily, our train was only a teeny bit delayed in getting us there, and was running perfectly fine! We were very pleased to have arrived safely in Nuneaton, as we really didn't know if we were going to make it, it was a relief. It was lovely getting home, and our dear friend Lynn collected us from the station even though she doesn't like driving in the snow, so thank you Lynn!
On Tuesday morning, I walked with mum to take Indigo to playgroup. The snow is so much thicker here than it was on the Wirral, and everywhere is covered. Our road is particularly bad, as the gritters never do it! Tuesday afternoon Mark & I travelled to Leicester to go to my appointments in the balance center. It was very funny in the waiting room, it was full of elderly people, and nobody could hear very well! Listening to some of the conversations was very entertaining. One lady got fed up of waiting at the desk, had a rummage and helped herself to some new hearing aid batteries before leaving!! We were quite early, so it was about 40 minutes before I was called.
Start of huge health update essay...
First off, I had more hearing tests. It was longer than the usual ones, and the earphones were getting uncomfortable with wearing the two sets (one that sits on the ear, one that sits on the bone behind the ear). Now for what should be the fun part! The CDP (or Computerised Dynamic Posturography) test. It involves being harnessed in to what is like a little cubicle without a door. My feet were positioned in two rectangles, with my ankles lined up with a sensor. Each element of the test is repeated 4 times (I guess this is to obtain averages!). The floor beneath my feet moved in different ways and directions, and the walls moved too, in some kind of organised manner. The aim of the test was to remain upright, without moving my feet. I fell around 5 times, but the doctor and the harness caught me! It was a very weird sensation, and there were many more times that I felt the urge to fell but didn't. Mark told me afterwards that throughout parts of the test I was leaning further towards the right each time. He commented that the test looked weird, but intriguing enough to want a go! One of the tests requested (VEMPs) couldn't be carried out, due to the machines being down. After a little wait, finally was the worst part of the testing, ENG (Electronystagmography). The first part wasn't so bad, it involved sitting/lying in various positions wearing a highly technical pair of what were essentially goggles. I had to follow lights with my eyes without moving my head, look in different directions and hold it whilst the visor was down (so it was completely dark and I couldn't see). My least favourite part was the Caloric testing. I had read that it was done using water, but in my hospital they used air. During these tests, the visor on the goggles was down for the entirety, so I couldn't see anything but was supposed to maintain looking straight ahead. First up, the doctor blew hot air into my left ear for maybe about two minutes, then I assume she was monitoring my eye movements for the few minutes following, where I was to look ahead whilst counting in my head to keep me concentrated, rather than thinking about the dizzy feeling it provoked. After a few minutes, a little light was shone that I had to concentrate my eyes on for a short time. That wasn't so bad. I had a little break whilst she wrote some things up, and then it was the same again in my left ear. Except in my left ear, it hurt unbelievably! I thought my ear was going to explode, it seemed to go on forever!!! My ear hurt for the rest of Tuesday, and for the majority of Wednesday too. This was followed by cold air in each ear separately, and again, it was worse in my left ear but not as bad as the hot air. I was very relieved when it was over!!! The air being blown into my ears did provoke dizzy feelings, but they passed quite quickly. The reason for this test is to test each side of the balance system individually, by stimulating the inner ear with the air. I have no idea what the outcome of any of these tests was, and won't until I see my consultant at the end of February. I'm very intrigued to find out what these tests determine, and hopeful that I will get some help with my problems.
...end of huge health update essay!
Afterwards, I didn't feel so bad except for a bad headache and a sore ear, so we went into town to get loads of Millies cookies and catch the bus home. We had vouchers for Millies, so we got two boxes of 12 for the price of one (£6.49), and we got four dips, 2 chocolate and 2 toffee, for the price of three (75p each). We chose equal amounts of white, dark, and milk chocolate cookies. They really are the best kind of cookies!! The twins and Indigo enjoyed them, as did the rest of us :)

But first up, the image of a perfectly lazy Sunday. Because now it's Monday, and all it did today was hail and sleet and be gloomy! My Sunday on the other hand, was spent lazing around finishing my first book of the year, eating dark Terry's chocolate orange and drinking the perfect mix of orange and apple juice. Heaven!

Saturday evening provided the perfect opportunity for me to paint my nails, something I've been slacking on lately. Mark was at work, Paddy was on the TV, and I had some lovely new nail decorations for Christmas. Mark's mum got me these 3D flower stickers amongst others, so I thought I'd try them out. The gorgeous shimmery blue is a h&m nail polish from a set of five. I did two coats of the blue, before adding the nail sticker to two accent fingers, and finishing with top coat. It's lasting incredibly well, and I love the 3D nail stickers!

And finally, my outfit from today. As mentioned, today's weather was awful! We had a few flurries of snow yesterday afternoon, but since then it's alternated between heavy rain, hail and a bit of sleet! Not nice at all. So being the lazy soul that I am, I tied my hair into two fishtail braids and pinned back my fringe. It's not a way I'd usually wear my hair, but for a day like today I think I just about got away with it! And since the only things I did were visit the supermarket and the doctors, who needs stylish hair! The underneath top is a long sleeved thermal top from a Uniqlo x Orla Kiely collab. I love it so much, it's very comfortable, the loveliest shade of dark green, perfect for layering, and has a gorgeous ditsy print. I picked it up for under £10 on the Uniqlo website before Christmas. I couldn't wear it until after as I bought my mum exactly the same one as one of her Christmas gifts - my mum's always cold so I thought a thermal would be a good choice! The knitted sweater is from Topshop, and was my only other post-Christmas sale buy. It was £10 from £26, and it is so comfortable if not stylish!
The doctor has requested me to go for an x-ray of my back due to some problems I've been having, so I'll be popping to the hospital on Monday for that before travelling back to Leicester for my other appointments! I also have to restart the dreaded B12 injections... I was hopeful when I heard my levels had gone from 150 to just over 500, but the doctor was quick to inform me that since that was 3 months ago, it will have undoubtedly dropped now. In better news, I had some funny patches on my legs for a while that the doctor told me were thread veins. Since his diagnosis which I never really believed anyway, they've disappeared and reappeared, and now I'm told they 'could be eczema', so all is well, I won't be needing that cosmetic leg surgery after all ;) (note my sarcasm, I am not a getting my legs out kind of girl!).
